Weldco-Beales Manufacturing: 10 Year Celebration of the Barrie, Ontario Location

Barrie, Ontario, September 1, 2016 – Weldco-Beales Manufacturing (WBM), one of North America’s largest and most respected manufacturers of heavy equipment attachments, is celebrating 10 years since the addition of the Barrie, Ontario facility. For over 70 years, Weldco has grown substantially from a small welding shop in Vancouver to operating four comprehensive manufacturing facilities located across Canada.

This milestone has been achieved through customers’ continued support as well as the hard work and dedication of the entire Weldco team who together design and manufacture premium attachments that are specialized to the requirements and demands of each machine’s job and capabilities. Customer loyalty for WBM products has been earned through the delivery of high quality products and the ongoing exceptional customer service.

Darren Lunt, President of Weldco Companies, reflects on the 10 year anniversary of the operation joining the group; “When Weldco was looking to strategically expand its reach across Canada back in 2006, the decision to acquire the existing fabrication operation in Barrie, Ontario was based on the strong team of talented people that were already in place.  Their commitment to quality, safety and innovation were a perfect fit.”

The Right Attachments:

Western Canadian machinery attachment OEM invests in technology for growth

If you’re an OEM of large, heavy industrial products for the resources sector, chances are, your manufacturing operations are somewhat of a hybrid between a custom shop and a production shop. Your customers aren’t typically looking for 1,000-part runs. Instead, they’re more likely to need short runs with products that often need to be customized for an end use.

That’s the case with Weldco-Beales Mfg (WBM) one of Canada’s largest OEMs of industrial attachments for machines used in construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas.

WBM Casing Hammer: featured in 'Worldwide Drilling Resource'

Rough Ground Meets a Tough Hammer
Adapted from information Provided by Weldco-Beales

The first casing hammer to be used with tophead rotary drive drill rigs was developed by Paul Cook, a soils engineer. He went on to partner with an engineer at Garrett Weldco, which later became Weldco-Beales Manufacturing (WBM). The company designs and manufactures premium casing hammers specialized for the demanding requirements of each machine's unique jobs and capabilities.

Drilling in unconsolidated rock formations requires a casing hammer to advance the well casing. The drill-thru feature on the 1321 casing hammer from WBM enables simultaneous drilling and driving of 6 to 24-inch casing. Air distrubution is controlled by a single mechanical valve, resulting in a very reliable and precise operation with no air lubrication required.

Because the casing penetrates the hole directly behind the drill bit, there is much less risk of damage to the casing or shoes. Rapid penetration is possible even in rough, boulder-filled ground. Soils, clay, glacial till, sand, gravel, and other unconsolidated formations can be drilled more rapidly. With the casing protecting the hole from erosion, high penetration rates can be achieved with a fraction of the air volume usually required.

The hammer is an air-operated casing driving which allows the operator to adjust the energy output and number of blows per minute depending on a drill site's geological formations. With a simple adjustment and removal of the top seal assembly, the hammer can be converted to up drive the casing for removal.

The hammers' parts are compatible between different models. Complete mounting packages are available for most standard top-drive rotary drill rigs, along with installation support.
